I do think you should institute a series of awards- certificates or medals perhaps- to honour these fine Americans and draw the attention of the Great American Public to their splendid examples.
yes. I like this line of thinking. Perhaps we could call it the "TTASS". Or Tent Trash Award for Services to Society or maybe even just the "Award for Service to Society" and that acronym would be fun too. great thinking Tadeusz!

Good question. Getting the name right is crucial. Important to get the tone right- Some thoughts:
1. The medal is named from the place from which is is issued, presumably your hometown- The Xplace Award for Good Citizenship/ for Public Services.
2. Name the award after a famous dead American- there may be some legal issues about that, however.
3. The Tent Trash Award for Services to Society.

Also good might be something whose acronym reads TRASH...which could derive from ...Tent Recognition Award for Super Herioism
